Items of Work handled
- Screening and technical evaluation of proposals received from the concerned State Governments and/or Wildlife division regarding declaration of Eco-Sensitive Zone around protected areas.
- Preparation of Draft and Final Eco-Sensitive Zone Notifications around National Parks and Wildlife Sanctuaries.
- Western Ghats Eco-Sensitive Area (ESA) notification(Draft) covering an area of 56825 sq km in the State of Goa, Maharasahtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Kerala.
- Convening the Eco-Sensitive Zone Expert Committee meetings from time to time for appraisal of proposals received from the State Governments.
- Correspondence with the State/UT Governments related to the ESZ proposals and matters connected thereof.
- Grants-in aid to Dahanu Taluka Environment Protection Authority, Mumbai through PL Division for protection and conservation of Dahanu Taluka.
- Parliamentary Matter.
- PMO/VIP/Miscellaneous references, Public grievances/Petitions received from public/voluntary organizations and miscellaneous organizations.
- Right to Information Act, 2005 pertaining to Eco-Sensitive Zones/Areas.
- Meetings/co-ordination with other Divisions/Ministries/Departments on the issues related to the Notifying Eco-Sensitive Zones around the Protected Areas.
Status of ESZ Notifications:
A total of 664 Protected Areas as ESZ Notifications (Draft & Final) are required to be published in the Gazette of India. Out of these, presently ESZ proposals for 596 PAs have been received in ESZ Division for publishing of notification and Draft Notifications have been published for 132 PAs and Final Notifications have been published for 442 PAs.
